viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4534#p24084and you still have these issues, there's a couple of things that might be happening.
First - make sure that your password is correct. What you're describing usually happens if you're not authenticated to the wireless access point. If you have to manually configure your IP address to connect - you're definitely not authenticated. Using manual IP bypasses the initial authentication check. Double check all of your password and authentication settings.
Second - what type of internet connection do you have? If you have DSL, and your system uses PPPoE, that can be tricky to set up in Linux. Most folks that use it have to configure their wireless routers to do the PPPoE connection, instead of trying to control the connection in Linux.
Finally - it's extremely rare - but some wireless access points do not handle DHCP correctly. For these point, you must manually configure IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS Servers. I describe my experiences with one such modem here:
