So I downloaded the rpms to my desktop and opened with software installer.First try failed because of a problem with dependencies vlc=0.8.6c-4.lvn6 needed by vlc-devel . I decided to remove vlc 0.8.6 and try again, it worked and installed. I checked add/remove software and there it was updated version and all, I then went to open the program and when I click on the icon nothing happens, nothing. What seems to be the issue, I looked around but haven't really found anything, also I still have the rpms on my desktop if that matters.

Please remove the vlc-0.9.8a until we have a stable build, I did not post that rpm up for everyone to use. I posted it for the experienced YDL users to test and report back problems. So please if your inexperienced with YDL do not attempt to install this build.

I am working hard to resolve the few issue's that are accuring. Then the rpm will be added to the repository. That is when it will be cool for everyone to install, Till then please do be patient and give me and the other guru's time to figure it out.
I posted directions up on how to remove the vlc-0.9.8a package so please remove it and revert back to the 0.8.6 until the final build is packaged and added to the repository.

Thanks Jaybps3!!!

Jaybps3 and billb, thank you very much for your effort. I am a RedHat Linux user mostly on the database side (means not really very proficient on Linux development or admin).

Ok, I have
- YDL 6.1 running on my PS3
- VLC 0.8.6 woking (No Windows Media support)

So I decided to try your rpms and I do understand these are still in testing phase. So here is my testing part.

The VLC 0.8 plugin works from firefox and plays the Windows Media from the site. However I do not see any controls. All I can get is fullscreen by doubleclick on media play screen.

Also running VLC application throws error.

Any suggestions.

I am about to start rebuilding vlc for yellow dog 6.2 right now, I will do my best to work out all the kinks, however after speaking with the vlc support team, I think dvd playback is gonna always be messed up on YDL due to some changes in the source.

Maybe this wont be a problem for ydl 6.2 maybe it will. I will know more soon as I compile a build here on ydl 6.2...

Have it installed -- running good so far! Still need you to upload your src.rpm, please.

EDIT:

I'm getting this error occasionally when trying to view some shoutcast tv stations:

"No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "mp4a". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

EDIT 2:

Also, still no sound on youtube videos when watching them on the site using mozilla-vlc & greasemonkey.

Was the sound working on the previous version after the youtube update? I know prior to the youtube update the sound worked fine. I now cannot get sound either.

I will post the src rpm once we get it sorted and actually ready for the repo, Still waiting for test info to start trying to fix the errors!

I haven't used the version from livna in some time since I only use my own ps3bodega repo for YDL 6.2 now (naturally :P), so I'm not sure about that one. I never got the sound working on Youtube with the version I currently have in there.

Here's a great source for sample videos in various formats to use for testing:

I'd still appreciate it if you upload what you have now, though. :)

Hi, i am a newbie to LInux. Main reason for me to installl Linux is to be able to install VLC Player on my PS3. I installed YDL6.1 on my PS3 :), I am really happy about it.
Please let me know if we have a stable build of latest VLC version. and I see several install instructions in the discussion, please let me know which one to follow for the current build.

Thanks, Jiten

Wonder what audio codec is being used for audio on youtube vids, I am gonna have to look into the vlctube script and see if it is the cause or not. I believe if you download the same video off youtube and play it using vlc the sound will work, which leads me to believe its some type of problem with vlctube script.

If anyone could test this theory out by downloading a video from youtube that works in vlc-mozilla but without sound, then see if it has sound when playing through vlc from your desktop.

I will upload the src for ya billb, Seeing ya asked nicely, I'm sure it will help ya figure out why you couldnt get it to build previously.

I attempted to build the latest vlc source code, However it fails saying that glibc 2-5-2.7 is buggy and nothing can be done to make it build, unless you update the glibc library!

I guess its time to start trying to figure out how to compile an rpm update for the glibc libraries that wont corrupt YDL 6.2 install.

Yes, I've noticed that before and just confirmed again -- video plays with no sound in Firefox, but plays fine with sound if I download it (I'm using youtube-dl).

Thanks.

We don't necessarily need the latest version, do we?
